The first few days after microneedling can bring redness, tightness, and a slightly rough texture, even when healing is progressing normally. At Moxi Spa in Lebanon, Pennsylvania, our microneedling treatment uses medical-grade devices to stimulate collagen and elastin. Led by board-certified nurse practitioner Josh and co-founder Stacey, our skincare team includes experienced aestheticians with backgrounds in customized facials and advanced skincare techniques.
The First 24 Hours
Right after your appointment, the treated area may look pink or red and feel warm, tender, or tight. This sunburn-like reaction can last 24 to 72 hours, depending on the depth of your session.
Keep your routine simple. Cleanse gently, avoid rubbing or picking, and use only the products discussed at your appointment. Even a formula labeled “gentle” may contain an ingredient that is not suitable for freshly treated skin.
Wait at least 24 hours before applying makeup unless we advise otherwise. A deeper session or lingering irritation may call for a longer break.
Days 2 and 3
The initial pinkness should begin to ease, though your complexion may still feel dry or uneven. Mild flaking can also occur. Let it shed on its own rather than reaching for a scrub, cleansing brush, or exfoliating cloth.
Retinoids, exfoliating acids, and other strong ingredients should stay out of your routine until we clear you to restart them. Stick with familiar, approved medical-grade skincare instead of trying something new.
Freshly treated skin also needs protection from ultraviolet exposure. Avoid tanning, limit time in direct sunlight, wear a hat outdoors, and follow our instructions for sunscreen use.
Days 4 Through 7
By the end of the week, many people notice that the treated area feels smoother and looks brighter. Small dry patches can remain after a more intensive appointment, but they should continue to settle.
The visible recovery period is only one part of the process. Microneedling prompts collagen renewal beneath the surface, so changes in firmness and skin quality can continue developing for several weeks. We generally recommend a series of sessions spaced four to six weeks apart, depending on your concerns and treatment plan.
Once healing is complete, we can discuss customized facials or red light therapy as separate additions to your skincare routine. During colder weather, our advice on caring for dry or sensitive skin may also be helpful.
When to Check In With Us
Call our office if your symptoms grow worse rather than improve. Reasons to check in include blistering, bleeding that continues longer than 24 hours, swelling lasting beyond a week, increasing warmth or pain, pus, or fever. Do not wait for a routine follow-up when something falls outside the recovery instructions you received.
